✅ Week 5: Digital Declutter: Unused Accounts
When was the last time you checked your old logins or accounts? Did you even remember you had a blog at “???” (that is, you cannot remember the name, let alone the URL), or that you started a blog at another platform, but never continued with it? Old accounts are goldmines for hackers. Close, merge, or secure them to cut clutter and risk as soon as possible.
How do you find those forgotten or unused accounts? You can use several methods:
Easy peasy: Search your email inbox for saved welcome messages or, simply, emails sent to you with the word or words, "Welcome", "Free Trial", "Verify", or "Save This Email". Use those emails to find your accounts online.
You can also check through the apps you've added through Google, Apple, or Facebook settings.
One method I used to help a client find his old accounts was the Wayback Machine. You can search for old sites by using a name or email without charge.
Tonight, get a snack (popcorn is preferred on my end), turn on a good movie, and start a casual search for your long-forgotten sites. You might find some material worth re-using as well as eliminating the possibility of hackers.
